Lawrence County Promise Keepers Meeting
Date: Tuesday, 2/7    Time: 6:30PM

What: The Lawrence County Promise Keepers meet at 6:30PM on the first Tuesday of each month for prayer, worship, praise and Bible study.

Location: This month's meeting will be held at the Second Baptist Church located at 1208 I Street in Bedford.


BNL Scholarship Foundation Applications Available
Date: Tuesday, 2/7

What: Bedford North Lawrence Scholarship Foundation scholarship applications are now available in the BNL Counseling Department or online at www.nlcs.k12.in.us/BNLSF and must be completed, signed and returned to the BNL Counseling Department. To be considered for a Foundation scholarship a student must have maintained a grade point average of 2.8 or higher. The deadline for returning applications is Friday, February 17th. There will be no exceptions to this deadline. The Scholarship Program offers more than 300 scholarships to BNL students. The scholarships are awarded to students based on academic achievement as well as to students who show evidence in their high school records of achievement in their chosen fields of study.

Bedford Parks Dept Turbo Kick Classes
Date: Friday, 2/10    Time: 5:30PM

What: Turbo Kick Classes will meet at the Limestone Girls club on Fridays at 5:30PM. Pre-registration is required at the Park office, fee is $30.00 for 6 week course.


Daddy/Daughter Sweetheart Dance
Date: Friday, 2/10    Time: 7:00PM

What: The Bedford Parks Department in partnership with the Limestone Girls Club will be hosting a sweetheart dance for fathers and daughters on Friday, February 10th from 7 to 9PM in Kari's Gym. Kristen Messmore will be the guest speaker and light refreshments will be provided for the couples prior to the dance from 7 to 7:30PM.

Cost: Tickets are $20 per couple and $25 with two or more daughters. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance at the Park Office. Tickets cannot be purchased at the door.

BNL Starstrong Movie Night
Date: Friday, 2/10    Time: 7:00PM

What: BNL Starstrong will be hosting a school and community movie night on Friday, February 10th at 7PM in the BNL cafeteria. Admission is $2 and concessions will be available. Students under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees should bring their favorite lawn-chair for the best seat in the house. The feature presentation will be Toy Story 3. All proceeds will benefit Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services, Make-a-Wish and Riley Hospital for Children.

Operation Comedy
Date: Saturday, 2/11    Time: 6:30PM

What: Operation Comedy will be taking place at the Paoli Community Building on Saturday, February 11th from 6:30 to 10:30PM. Operation Comedy will benefit the Disabled Veterans Wish Foundation. The event will feature several comedians including; Jon Stites, Troy Davis, Todd McComas and Warren B. Hall.

Cost: Tickets are $15.

Mitchell Youth League Baseball/Softball Sign Ups

What: The Mitchell Community Youth League will begin doing baseball and softball sign-ups at Emerson Gym and Burris Elementary School every Saturday until mid March. If you cannot make to one of the gyms on Saturdays you can sign up at Sprint Oil any time.


The Not Too Bad Bluegrass Band Concert
Date: Saturday, 2/11    Time: 7:30PM

What: The Lawrence County Concert Association presents “The Not Too Bad Bluegrass Band” performing in concert at the BNL Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 11th beginning at 7:30PM. The Not Too Bad Bluegrass Band is a vital part of Indiana’s vibrant tradition of bluegrass music. Based in southern Indiana, the band has performed at regional music festivals and events for over 25 years. A special Lobby Concert beginning at 6:45PM will feature the members of the Bedford Dulcimer Society playing music of our nation’s early years on a variety of instruments.

Cost: Ticket cost is $20 and are available at the door. Children under 18, attending with paying adult, are admitted free.

Valentine's Dinner for Pastoral Staffs and Spouse
Date: Saturday, 2/11    Time: 6:00PM

What: The Lighthouse Christian Bookstore is having a free Valetine’s Dinner with love songs by David and Kim Frazier on Saturday, February 11th at 6PM. This event is for local pastoral staffs and their spouses. Senior pastors, youth pastors and worship leaders are invited and need to RSVP at the Lighthouse Christian Bookstore on Hwy 37 or call 279-9979.


Fundraiser for Becky's Place
Date: Saturday, 2/11    Time: 6:00PM

What: Becky’s Place, a woman’s and children’s shelter in Bedford, will hold a fund raising dinner at St. Vincent de Paul’s New Perish Life Center on Saturday, February 11th. The event will include entertainment by the Nostalgia Band. Doors open at 6PM with dinner served at 6:30.

Cost: Tickets are $25 a person or a table of 8 for $200 and are available at the Bedford Chamber of Commerce or by contacting Becky’s Place Director Cami Pritchett at 812-369-2264.


H&R Block Informational Program
Date: Monday, 2/13    Time: 6:30PM

What: H&R Block will be providing an informational program at the Mitchell Community
Public Library on Monday, February 13th at 6:30PM. Nancy Mundy will highlight the federal and state tax changes that affect your 2011 filings. Tax
questions will be answered and free record keeping booklets will be available.

Low Vision Support Group
Date: Monday, 2/13    Time: 1:00PM

What: On Monday, February 13th from 1 to 2PM Dr. Elli J. Kollbaum of Indiana University School of Optometry will present “Nutrition for Vision.” This event is free and open to everyone.

Location: The event will be held at the First Presbyterian Church located at 221 East 6th Street in Bloomington.

The Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Bike Ride
Date: Saturday, 2/18    Time: 10:00AM

What: The Terrible Horrible No Good Bike Very Bad Bike Ride will be held on Saturday, February 18th beginning at 10AM. The 5-mile ride will traverse urban cycling routes around Bloomington to prove that it's possible to bike in all kinds of weather. Intended for both the fearful and the fearless. If you can ride on this day, you can ride any day. All are invited and the ride will take place rain or shine.

Location: Participants should meet in front of City Hall before the ride.

Owls: The Perfect Predator at Bedford Library
Date: Monday, 2/20    Time: 6:00PM

What: Owls: The Perfect Predator will be held at the Bedford Public Library on Monday, February 20th at 6PM. Naturalist Jill Vance will examine some of the adaptations that make the owl’s nocturnal lifestyle possible and discuss the types of owls that live in this area. This is also the ideal time of year for "calling in" owls, and Vance will explain how to do this at home. There is no charge and no registration.

Lawrence County History Festival Fundraiser

What: The 2012 Lawrence County History Festival will hold a fundraiser on Saturday, February 25th at the Wilson Park Shelter House in Bedford. There will be a bake sale and a garage sale from 8AM to 2PM and Native American craft demonstrations from 4 to 6PM.

5th Annual Spring Tonic
Date: Saturday, 3/3    Time: 9:00AM

What: The Hoosier Hillsides Master Gardeners will present the fifth annual Spring Tonic on Saturday, March 3rd beginning at 9AM. There will be five speakers addressing topics of
interest to gardeners including Kay Yatskievych, the author of “The Field Guide to Indiana
Wildflowers”. There will also be a variety of vendors selling their wares. Breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee of $35 ($40 after February 17th).

Location: The event will be held at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Paoli at the community building.

Mother Son Bowing Event

What: The Bedford Parks Department will be partnering up once again with the Thornton Memorial Boys Club on Saturday March 3rd from 1 to 3PM to host the Mother Son Bowling event at Broadview Bowling Alley. Tickets are on sale at the Bedford Parks Department only from 7-4PM Monday through Friday. A limited number of tickets are available, no tickets will be available at the door.

Cost: Ticket cost is $20 per couple or $25 for two or more sons. This includes an afternoon of bowling and refreshments.

Cornerstone Worship Men's Conference

What: The Tried, True and Triumphant Men's Conference will be held on Saturday, March 17th at the Cornerstone Worship Center from 10AM to 2:30PM.
Registration for the event will begin at 9:30AM and a free lunch will be provided. Speakers for the conference will include Reverend Brad Rainey, Pastor Russell Hylton and Pastor Rodney Reynolds. Men and boys 13 and older are welcome to attend.

Bedford North Lawrence High School Fundraiser
Date: Saturday, 3/31    Time: 7:00PM

What: This event is a fundraiser with the goal of making this an annual event to strengthen the bonds of our community and raise funds for academic programs. Events include dancing, an auction, door prizes, and food!

Location: Bedford North Lawrence High School on 3/31/2012 from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m.

62nd Annual Bedford Lions Club Pancake Festival
Date: Saturday, 5/5    Time: 6:00AM

What: The 62nd annual Bedford Lions Club Pancake Festival will take place Saturday, October 8th from 6AM to 12 noon at the Thornton Park Pavilion. The menu will include pancakes, sausage, coffee and milk. Proceeds from the festival will be used for a number of community endeavors including the insect-spraying program, purchasing glasses for needy children and building ramps for the handicapped.

Cost: Tickets are $5 for people ages 13 and up and $3 for children 12 and under. Tickets are available from any club member, or can be purchased at the event.

Additional Info: Carry-out orders will be available at a drive-through lane on the South side of the pavilion.
