Slipknot (Encore) on Rockline

Getting everyone in synch is often the toughest aspect of booking guests on Rockline.

On night's when we might have an opening, the band we invite may be performing, they could be in transit, or could be overseas. In the past, if an artist couldn't appear live on the show we simply wouldn't have them on, or we'd wait until months had passed and the stars had hopefully aligned. Well, that didn't seem to make much sense to us.

Let's use Slipknot, our next guests as an example. The optimum night for them to join us is Monday August, 25 the night before their brilliant new album "All Hope Is Gone" is released. But they were to be in Europe that night scheduled to perform. A few short years ago we wouldn't have done this broadcast. What we do now is tape the show, get the story about the new CD from some of the principles involved and offer you the national radio premiere. Everyone wins, Slipknot, Rockline and most importantly, you.

In the very few times we have done this we have gotten absolutely zero complaints. None. This has encouraged us to reexamine an arcane rule and to instead book the best bands possible for you, present album premieres and work toward returning to our standard format with an additional appearance from our guests on down the line. It now seems so simple, but changes are often met with resistance. This one has been met with encouragement.

This slight change in approach has paid huge dividends as three integral members of Slipknot, vocalist and lyricist Corey Taylor, drummer extraordinaire Joey Jordison and percussionist and vocalist Shawn "Clown" Crahan take us on a personalized, guided tour of what many are hailing as the best Slipknot album to date.

Every musician who has ever sung a note, plucked a string, or pounded out a rhythm will declare that their new album is the best they've ever done. But the Rockline bullshit meter is marinated in experience, finely tuned by long term use and honed by detection of hollow statements and false claims over the course of several thousand shows and it did not go off once when the trio was discussing "All Hope Is Gone". Not only are they aware that this is something special, but others are as well. The new album is being highly touted by many, disparaged by few. It is a career achievement, raising the band's own highly set bar, which was established with "Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses". Maggots, this is must listen radio as 8, 1and 6 verbalize the creative process and make it resonate in an informative and relaxed atmosphere. And once again, have your dictionary handy as Corey stated, "I'm not going to dumb down my lyrics for anybody". Smart.

Since this show was recorded on Tuesday July 29, Joey has broken his ankle curtailing the European tour and the band has been unfairly linked to a horrific incident in South Africa. Those topics are not covered, but if you want to learn about "All Hope Is Gone" you've come to the right place. If you need up to the minute information regarding the band visit www.Slipknot1.com

Join us for the national radio premiere of the brand new Slipknot album "All Hope Is Gone", only on the next Rockline!
